Amazon is sending out single rolls not double rolls! I compared side by side with a double roll from my last package and its significantly smaller. The package even identifies it as a single roll. and item number is 95868368 on the package not the 84846293 advertised on the box!

Not a good deal--narrower rolls?, June 24, 2011
By Amazon Loyal Shopper
|
|
I absolutely love Amazon, however I am finding that items such as toilet tissue are not good deals. You can get 30 rolls of Jumbo Charmin (231 sheets vs. 175) for $20 at Costco, which makes this half again the cost even at the subscription price. The rolls are also narrower across. I'm not sure if this is typical for double rolls, but I doubt it. The different packaging makes me suspicious that this is not exactly the same product as the double rolls you would buy at stores.

Deceiving Ripoff, January 20, 2012
By Snakeeye (Aurora, CO)

|
The picture accompanying this product totally led me down the wrong path. I was thinking that I was ordering the mega rolls that I am accustomed to. So when the box arrived, I thought to myself, "Self? This box doesn't look as big as I expected." Sure enough--10 packages of these measly little rolls that they are calling "double." Not so--these are no larger (in fact smaller, IMO) than a plain old regular roll. For the price ($29ish), this seemed almost too good to be true and in fact was! Never again.

The Cadillac of Toilet Papers, November 3, 2010
By Music Lover (Mesa, AZ)
|
|
One of the great things about living in the U.S. is that we have some of the softest toilet paper in the world. If you have ever traveled much, you'll find some of the world's toilet paper's like sandpaper. In fact in some countries they like to get toilet paper as a gift! (No, I am not kidding.) When you travel, at least pack a little for your own use and make it Charmin. Charmin has always been one of the best papers and the Ultra Soft is really extra nice. Was I brainwashed by Mr. Whipple (who died 3 years ago), into thinking Charmin was the softest? I don't think so, as I have tried a lot of different papers (usually whatever was on sale), but still like Charmin the best. You might pay a little more for it than some brands, but it is well worth it. You get what you pay for. No, I am not doing a video review of T. Paper.

These are NOT normal double rolls!, January 4, 2012
By Nathan
|
|
I read the reviews after I purchased this item on December 12, 2011. I went to Target and got a 24 pack of the Charmin Ultra Soft "Double" rolls. They look the same but the sheets on the Target rolls are packed tighter and the ones from Amazon and loose. So, I decided to weight them. The rolls from Target average about 102 grams each. The rolls from Amazon average 97 grams each. The inside tubes look the same, so my guess is that there is less paper on the Amazon rolls. I paid $13 plus tax for the 24 double rolls, equivalent to 48 regular rolls, so they are about the same price but NOT the same thing!

Thick toilet paper, annoying bears, January 20, 2011
By fluxus
|
|
I really hate the commercials and cover design with the bears always getting toilet paper stuck to their backsides. However, the product itself works fine and for humans, which is important. It's so thick it can be a good facial tissue stand-in. Soft and thick toilet paper is what this is.

Definitely an upgrade over Charmin Basic, December 13, 2010
By RG (California)
|
|
Before I got the Ultra Soft, I was using Charmin Basic. And I can definitely tell that the Ultra Soft is softer than the Basic. But personally I've found the Basic to be perfectly fine and don't have any complaints with it and therefore have no need to "upgrade" to the Ultra Soft. Still if you don't mind paying a slight premium and want the maximum comfort and softness, then you'll probably find it's worth a few more dollars for the extra softness.

Good in moderation, November 10, 2010
By Luke Waygood (Jamestown, NY United States)

You know, I never thought I'd be writing a review on toilet paper....doesn't everyone know what it is?? :)
Seriously, it is dubbed as Ultra Soft, and it is indeed soft. In use, we found it to be pretty much lint free, absorbant and very strong. I usually use Puffs Plus for my nose when I have a cold, but I thought I'd try this toilet paper (as I happen to have a cold right now) and I don't have a red, irritated nose from using it, so my hat's off to Charmin.
Personally, I love this toilet paper and would give it 5 stars. However, I had to knock a star off for a couple of reasons:
1. My wife was complaining of blockages in the toilet attributed to this new paper. I don't think there's anything wrong with the paper. I think it's actually a case of being a victim of its own success - they WANT it to be strong and absorbant. However, some people *coughs*my kids*coughs* don't know how to adapt to different types of paper and don't seem to be able to reduce the amount used for a thicker type of paper. So again, I don't think there's something wrong with the paper, but I do think that those with small children might run into problems using it (and my kids aren't even small!)
2. My wife started getting a rash from using it. Again, this may not be a problem with the paper but a sensitivity of her own to this paper. However, I have to recognize while writing this review, that there may be other sensitive people out there. So if you know you're sensitive, you may want to try some out before buying a boatload of the paper!
Again, personally, I think it's excellent toilet paper and do not hesitate to recommend it.

What can you say? Charmin is the Best!, November 6, 2010
By Samuel Dylan Hrncir (Warsaw, Poland)
|
|
We have 6 people in my house (at least) at any given point and we do go through quite a bit of toilet paper. We've used Charmin pretty regularly for the past several years, but this was our first swipe using this particular type.
First - the Frustration-free packaging. They came in a box of 40 double rolls. That's 10, 4-packs. I thought that this could have been less packaging (maybe 8-packs?) so that there was less waste, but this is not a major issue. As far as opening the box, it was easy, and opening the individual 4-packs was really quite simple. So it was indeed frustration-free packing, but I'm not sure how they could do it differently.
These packages are not frilly with lots of decoration. They're pretty straight forward with a blue banner and white letters. But that was kind of nice. Not a lot of overkill.
As far as the toilet paper itself? Well, it's toilet paper. It's not going to work miracles, but it is nice toilet paper. It's a two-ply. Not the softest, most plushiest kind on the market, but none of the people in our house complain. Everyone enjoys this over other the alternatives at the grocery store.
Also of note - our septic system is particularly sensitive and we've never had a problem (yet) with this type of paper. So even though it's `ultra soft' it appears to be very septic-friendly. This is a big plus.
Update - I recently had a guest walk out of my bathroom and make a comment on how soft our toilet paper is! That's a first for me that anyone has ever asked "This is amazing, where did you get this?" Just thought it was worth adding.

I love charmin, October 25, 2010
By Shopaholic (United States)

Nice & soft, Amazon's frustration free packaging is a plus. It is a bit linty, because the paper is so soft. Double rolls, do last a bit longer than the regular rolls, but the roll is a bit of a squeeze for my toilet paper holder, so it is used a bit first, then put on the roller. Recommended.

Premium Price TP, So So Performance, November 5, 2010
By Boilermate (Upstate NY)
|
|
I don't want to sound like a contrarian, but...
I did a side-by-side comparison with this product and my normal product, Cottenelle, both in the "double roll" size. I haven't used Charmin in years, so I thought this would be a good chance to compare the two.
Though the rolls are physically the same size, since the Charmin is two-ply each roll has 176 sheets vs 260 single-ply sheets per roll of Cottonelle. In theory, you will use fewer sheets of a two-ply paper, but in every day use this is not always the case. After all, you can cut your number of sheets so much. Overall, Charmin would cost more per month than Cottonelle would.
Charmin is indeed soft, but that comes at a price...it shreds easily and is linty. So even tho it is two-ply it still needs to be doubled up. I was using as much or more Charmin than Cottonelle. When I asked Mrs. Boilermate her opinion she said it shred easily and would not buy it. She also said, "It seems like I am always changing the roll."
Not only do you get fewer sheets per roll compared to Cottonelle, you get fewer rolls per case as well (40 vs 48). That makes Charmin a more expensive option, and in my opinion, not a worth while one.

half the retail price using subscribe and save, September 23, 2011
By Rebecca N (New York, NY United States)
|
|
I get this on subscribe and save and have been doing so for more than 6 months now. I am very, very pleased. The S&S price is half of what the same exact Charmin goes for at the drugstore/grocery near me (Manhattan). The printing on the package is a little simpler, and I surely don't care about that. Even with a small apartment, these stack very nicely back in the corner on the floor of my hallway closet. That's a big deal to me when buying bulk - I simply don't have a lot of room. But the risk of running out of toilet paper and the small space it takes up in reality makes this totally worth it for me.
I always leave one package in the bathroom. I will stay subscribed to this product until Amazon no longer offers it. Happy customer here!

It is a good tissue but I find the double rolls to run out too soon. You can get it less expensively through the pgestore and they have mega rolls. The nomenclature for the length of the rolls is definitely confusing (I presume this is purposeful.)

Soft and well priced, November 11, 2011
By Tim
|
|
This toilet paper is high quality and on the upper end of value. At $25 you're getting 40 double rolls, equal to 80 regular rolls, of soft two-ply tissue that has a great texture. You can find 24 mega rolls (equal to 96 regular rolls) at a similar or better price, but after having tried Ultra Soft there is no comparison in terms of feel. The main thing is don't be fooled by products with higher quantity of rolls if they're not two-ply or not larger rolls. These 40 rolls go a long way, and can't be beaten in terms of quality.

Favorite TP, February 4, 2011
By kay
|
|
This is by far my favorite tp on the market today. I have a medical condition that leads to frequent use of this type of product and it creates a need for something very soft. Charmin Ultra Soft never leads to irritation. Equally important, it never leaves behind little shreds or pieces either. Other "soft" brands tend to shred when they get wet, and it is uncomfortable to have those little pieces in sensitive areas, but I don't have to worry about that with Ultra Soft. I am also able to use less, which leads to less frequent purchases.

Soft, strong, economical, December 22, 2010
By puccagirl73 (San Jose, CA)

Then packaging was great and it arrived fast. The toilet paper (TP) is great, the texture is wonderful, it's soft but strong, does not chafe and you really do not need a lot. The paper is also lint free. I found myself using less of the product but because you really do not need to use a lot for all TP uses. I already use Charmin, so this Ultra Soft version is my preferred TP for the right economical price.

Top of the Line TP, November 25, 2010
By Raul G, (USA)
|
|
I'll admit it's a bit strange writing a review of toilet paper. After all the very nature of the product would preclude anyone with any decency from getting into any sort of detailed, play-by-play use of the product. So it should go without saying that I'll leave out the unpleasant details and just stick with the basics.
Charmin Ultra Soft Toilet Paper Double Rolls stands up with other top-quality toilet papers I've used. It's soft enough to used as an alternative to Kleenex and yet strong enough that blowing your nose won't rip the paper. I've used Charmin for those annoying winter head colds and in my opinion it does a better job at preventing irritation to my nose than Kleenex or other tissue paper. Another bonus is that Charmin doesn't leave behind small fluffy bits of toilet paper on my beard. In fact it's soft enough that my French Bulldog pup prefers it to Kleenex when I wipe his face folds (to prevent sores on his wrinkles).
In ordinary use it's again very soft and prevents irritation to private areas. The paper is strong enough not to rip easily and plenty absorbent. In my experience it's also easy on plumbing too and is very easy to flush.
High marks all around. Recommended.

Friendly Package of A Great Product, November 6, 2010
By Nikon Jeff (Morgantown, West Virginia)
|
|
How does one review toilet paper? Maybe you compare the softness and feel. Or maybe you comment on Charmin's "Never Felt So Good" logo. I honestly don't know. Charmin makes a fine product. In our household, it is the only toilet paper used. And their Ultra Soft product certains does "feel good." But why buy this from Amazon and have it shipped to your home when every local supermarket and chain drugstore carries it?
Perhaps it's the Amazon Frustation-Free packaging. The rolls come in an easy to open and easy to dispose of box. That's clearly a good reason to buy the product from Amazon. And 40 roles, if you are normal and healthy, will last for a while. Best of all, there is no cheap, sandpaper feel to this product. So go ahead, order the Charmin Ultra Soft, Double Rolls, 40 Total Rolls in the Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging. Your bottom and the environment will thank you.

NOT Charmin Ultrasoft, October 20, 2011
By kbenti
|
|
Let me start off by saying how much I love both Charmin Ultrasoft and Amazon.com. The problem with this toilet paper that I received from Amazon.com that was sold as Charmin Ultrasoft is that it was NOT. Oh yes, it came in the right packaging, but it was not the same Charmin Ultrasoft that you can buy in any store. I don't know if I got some stray reject toilet paper intended for some other country or what happened, but what I can tell you is that what I did receive was horrible. I don't want to get into the particulars in this review as it would gross out most readers just suffice it to say that it was not nearly as soft or as strong as it should have been.

I gotta admit, it's kinda odd to write a review of toilet paper. After all, toilet paper sells itself, and Charmin is the top name. I seriously don't think that when folks buy toilet paper they bother to read reviews of it. But what the hey-It's comfy and soft, and it's like wiping my ass with a cloud. There you have it.

Pedigree TP, October 28, 2010
By jt (NoCal, USA)
|
|
I would say that this is pretty much the best TP you can get. It is very soft and the rolls are large so they last a decent amount of time. Our house has used this brand for quite sometime. Our homes TP holders are recessed in to the walls so that spindle is pretty much flush with the drywall and we don't have a problem with the rolls fitting. It would be nice if they could use recycled paper for the TP and still achieve similar softness.
Packaging is appropriate for shipment of the product. I'm not sure that it saves more then getting from your local warehouse store that doesn't use any cardboard boxing.

Not normal Double Rolls, January 5, 2012
By fatcatdeals (New England)

The only place these rolls are labeled as 'Double' is on the shipping box. They looked small so I compared it to a Quilted Northern double roll and it is noticably smaller - i'd estimate 15%-20%. It also doesn't 'feel' like the ultra soft you buy at the store. The wrappers are plain with just the name Charmin on them. I wouldn't buy this offer again.

The description of this products says that it is for double rolls. When I received the package, the outer box said "double rolls" but when I opened the package, the product was not a double roll. It was a regular sized roll of tissue. The plastic packaging from the 4-packs did NOT say double roll. It was still a decent price but not what i was expecting.

We have used Charmin for years, with Northern from time to time. We always fall back to Charmin. Definitely the softest of the toilet papers. The strength is good but could use some improvement.
The biggest decision is whether to buy from Amazon or not. If you are coupon shopper like myself, you can definitely save money by purchasing from a store when it goes on sale.
You definitely need to use the subscribe and save feature of Amazon to have the competitive pricing

The Great Kirkland/Charmin Stand Off, October 31, 2010
By In my day, we had 9 planets. (Austin, TX)
|
|
Ok, so I've been alternating between Kirkland and Charmin rolls for a week now to see what I can possibly say in a toilet paper review. Here are my key conclusions:
- Both are superior to any supermarket or value brands I've ever tried. - The Costco rolls seem to last longer, presumably because there are more sheets per roll, but the tissue quality on both is about equal. - The texture on the Charmin is more "pleasant" on your hands, though other parts of your body may struggle to tell the difference.
My only question is why these rolls are twice the price of the warehouse equivalent, when both brands at Costco seem to be about the same? I get 36 rolls at Costco for around $18, so I would be hard-pressed to justify 40 rolls for $38 on Amazon.

Tears too easily, October 29, 2010
By 57psalm

Charmin is soft, but compared to my el-cheap-o toilet paper, Charmin tears much easier, which is not good.
If you happen to have a case of the "trots," you may want to go with the Charmin as it is less abbrasive on those more "tender" areas.
On a normal day though, my butt can't tell the difference between the Charmin and the brand I use. The cheap-o brand I use holds together better when it's most needed.

Good TP?, October 21, 2010
By D. Sun (Vallejo, CA United States)
|
|
What can you say about TP? I've used this Charmin TP for 5+ years.
This TP really is soft, absorbent, and does what it is supposed to do. The one thing I feel is misleading is the 'double roll,' claim where they say one roll of this TP is the same as 2 rolls. At one point in time many years ago the physical size of the roll really was far larger than other brands and did look and feel like a double roll. The past few years the rolls seem to have shrunk a great deal and the double now feels like a normal. Guess this is like how 16oz/1 pound boxes of food are now 9.3oz.
This Charmin is still a good product and you never appreciate a basic item like TP until you experience sub par products in a hotel or even worse, over seas. I actually bring 1 or 2 rolls of this TP when traveling for over 1 week over seas. It's saved me countless times.

Nice plush TP, November 4, 2010
By Omar Siddique (Ellicott City, MD USA)
|
|
This is a plush, thick toilet-paper. It's a little heavier than my usual Cottonelle. The Cottonelle is marginally more effective because of its ridging/ripples, but the heavier Charmin doesn't shred as easily.
Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging is nice, the TP ships in 10 4-packs in the actual shipping box. No extra plastic to bundle them all together, no box around the vendor's box. Well done on reducing packaging. But it would be nicer still if there was more of a shift towards recycled-content TP...
Recommended.

Great TP, April 23, 2012
By Nancy K Taylor (Harris, MO United States)

I really like this toilet paper. It is thick and soft. There is no "floaty residue" in the air like with other types of Charmin. I will definitely ordered it again. My favorite is a Northern brand, but I haven't been able to find it lately. This Charmin will work until I do! : ) Hee Hee I reviewed TP - never thought I would do that! lol

The super soft toilet paper we all know and love, March 10, 2012
By X. Xu
|
|
Charmin ultra soft toilet paper is indeed that; very soft. It's not the cheapest TP on the market, but with an Amazon subscription it's not exactly a luxurious item either. I like the convenience and the cost savings in getting this item, even though I live by myself and don't go through it that fast (may be problematic for people living in apartments without much storage space).

GLAD I COULD BUY IN BULK, January 17, 2012
By ladyinclover

Glad I could buy this item on Amazon. I was pre-warned by all of you that the rolls would not be as big as I am used to having. OK with me. I have a bidet and we shouldn't be using any toliet paper, but my husband refuses to use the bidet, so I still have to buy toliet paper for him. Serves him right if he has to change the rolls more frequently. But I think we got a good deal here.

They are smaller!, January 10, 2012
By S. Goedert (Rockford, Illinois United States)

I had some Charmin when I received this and the rolls are smaller then they sell in stores. I was really disappointed since its really not a bargin. Plus, it doesn't even tell you how many sheets or anything so you can actually compare it. I think I'll just stick with buying it at Sams and cancel my subscription to it.

I was hesitant at first in ordering the case of Charmin ultra soft. My family is very picky when it comes to toilet paper and we usually buy another brand. When I saw the amazing offer on this, I told myself that we could try it once and of nobody liked it we would cancel the subscription to get a case every month. The shipment arrived very fast and we started using it right away. I am happy to say that I do not have to cancel this awesome shipment as we are very satisfied with the choice to change our brand! I now have one less headache each month as I no longer have to shop for coupons or a good deal on our families consumption of toilet paper.Less headaches = one happy momma!Charmin Ultra Soft, Double Rolls, 4 Count Packs (Pack of 10) 40 Total Rolls [Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging]

The best tp on the markets, July 27, 2011
By laff2day (San Diego, ca United States)

When I was toilet training my kids, I taught them to use only the necesary amount of TP & not more for effect. When I bought this brand of tp, I was very impressed. I am picky about my TP. At work they use the cheapest & roughest TP around. I have put my TP in a ranked list #1 Charmin Ultra Soft, #2 Northern Extra Plush, #3 Charmin extra Strong, #4 Safeway Brand Ultra Soft. I very seldom buy anything other than my #1&2 choice. You definitely can use less of this.

Soft enough to use on your baby's butt. Strong and thick enough to use one square at a time. Toilet paper you can feel proud about when your guests use your bathroom. I haven't done a value-comparison, but quality-wise, you cannot go wrong with this TP.

Better than the sand paper I've used in communist countries, February 2, 2011
By Nathan Brantley (Gainesville, FL)
|

MMM...soft.
Who would have ever thought you'd read an online consumer review...on toilet paper. But you're doing it right, even possibly whilst implementing the use of a competitor's product and wishing for an alternative.
Having lived in other countries, all of which are former communist third world countries, Charmin Ultra Soft could almost seem obnoxiously luxurious to what the billions of other people get to use. I mean, it's just that nice.
I docked the product one star because in my opinion, the subscribe and save doesn't save enough. Sure it's convenient, but couponing such items would save more cash.

Soft, absorbant, great hassle-free packaging..., December 9, 2010
By N. S. Michael (New Mexico)
|
|
...what else can be said?
Seriously, if you get a better deal on Amazon for Charmin Ultra Soft 40-count packages, why WOULDN'T you get them here?
Not only is it good for folks who hate driving from store to store for bargains (or worse, staying at one store and paying more for the conveinience), but it's Frustration-Free Packaging and shipping partner's discretion makes for easy aquisition for merry pranksters not wanting to raise eyebrows at their local market when they buy hundreds of rolls of toilet paper at a time~
And it's septic safe! So good news for folks stuck in small towns or the country with little access to big city market deals whose brands only cater to non-septic, sewer friendly varieties.
Really... just how much can I go on about this TP?

Good thickness and softness. You poke holes in this stuff. I also have had no issues with clogging, something the cheap plumbing around here does quite often. This is a very nice sized pack of tissue, enough to keep you stocked for a few months depending on the size of your family.

Yes, it is that good, November 18, 2010
By J. Sayer (NC, USA)

There are a few things in life that I don't feel it is worth skimping on, and good toilet paper is one of them. Charmin Ultra Soft has been my favorite for years and has never given any discomfort. When I remember, I even bring a roll with me when I travel rather than use the cheap stuff at hotels. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it.
The 40 roll box from Amazon comes well packaged, it was delivered in good condition with no signs of being smushed during delivery. I can't beat the convenience and will not hesitate to order more, although I will probably move to one of the larger sized rolls since they last longer and require less frequent replacement on the holder.

The Ladies will love it., November 17, 2010

I found the paper very soft. I found the rolls did last longer and that is a plus since no one likes to change the rolls. This is pretty much the Cadillac of bathroom tissue. The ladies will really love it. Tip for the guys. When your lady is coming by your home put away your usual brand of sandpaper-like tp. Put out these. She will notice the difference. All and all I liked this brand but for my personal needs it was a bit overkill.

Science and Luxury Collide For A Superior "TP.", November 15, 2010
By JWW (Cullman, AL USA)
|
|
Between advances in space travel, nano-technology, and health-care some things seem to progress at a slower pace. Toilet paper would be one of these categories. I mean how much is needed to advance the science of personal hygiene? Ask that question to a person who has experienced the worst of gastro-intestinal aftermath and that person might have more to say about the topic than you might want to know. Toilet paper can be improved just like most things used in our daily lives and Charmin, who has been a marketing leader in the field, now steps out with a truly superior product to go along with that excellent marketing.
Originally Charmin, as I recall, was marketed purely as a soft toilet paper - the softest! If that's all that was needed I would have liked Charmin, but softness had nothing to do with strength which Charmin, being originally a 1-ply, failed miserably at. I avoided Charmin due to the strength issue which would make it necessary to use more to achieve the desired strength, thus being also too expensive. I moved on to 2-ply Angel Soft and then settled on Quilted Northern. When Northern came out with Ultra-Plush, their 3-ply, soft tissue I thought finally here's the pinacle of softness with strength. I love it when I'm wrong in a good way and Charmin Ultra Soft has just, in my estimation, taken the crown away from Ultra Plush...Or, probably every other toilet paper 2 or 3-ply.
Charmin Ultra Soft is the perfect TP solution. It is extremely absorbant by trapping moisture and not merely passing it. It is extremely soft, but the "diamond weave" likely, in part, gets it name due to the strength the weave possesses. It doesn't tend to "fiber-apart" in your hand and split, instead it holds together like the word weave married to diamond implies it should.
Charmin Ultra Soft is the new standard in 2 and 3-ply toilet paper in strength and softness second to no other I know of. I'll be glad for someone to correct me on this since I'm in for anything better, but in this particular product we have the perfect collision of science and luxury resulting in a product which will be very hard to substanstially improve...A Superior "TP"! This is better than "The new bath mats are here"! (see movie "The Other Guys" if reference is falling a bit flat).

Soft, but not sturdy, November 15, 2010
By Dave (New York, NY USA)
|
|
Charmin Ultra-Soft is indeed soft, so perhaps it should be given more than 3 stars. However, I think that there are two problems with it: First, because it's thicker, there seems to be about half as many sheets as on other bathroom tissue rolls. This would be fine except that it's not very strong/sturdy so you have to use more than would seem appropriate.
All in all, I think one would be better off with a more standard bathroom tissue, augmented with moist wipes when one is feeling... delicate.

All soft and pleasant, November 2, 2010
By LH422 (Washington, USA)

This is some really nice toilet paper. It's the sort of premium toilet paper that's actually worth the higher price. It feels nice and soft, and you really can use less than with a budget toilet paper. The packaging was easy to manage and open. This is definitely a product I'll repurchase. I actually think Charmin's mega rolls are even better than the double roll, but these fit better into a standard toilet paper dispenser.

A nice premium product that performs and holds up, November 2, 2010
By Mr. Fred (Honolulu, Hawaii)
|
|
Charmin Ultra Soft is definitely a nice, premium product. The sheets are double-ply and are indeed ultra-soft compared to many other brands. In evaluating this product I used the following criteria, employing feedback from all members of the household.
1) Comfort ... are the sheets comfortable, do they irritate or scratch, etc.
2) Durability ... do the sheets tend to shred, tatter, or fall apart under heavier use
3) Performance ... do the sheets work effectively, are they absorbent, etc.
Charmin Ultra Soft rated very high on the comfort scale, with no scratching or other defaults. They had a subjectively soft feel and one family member called it "luxurious." On the durability scale, there were no problems reported, although the plies had a tendency to separate in the middle, making them harder to use at times (at least they didn't separate at the edges and come apart completely). There was no shredding as in cheaper brands. Performance was fine; the sheets absorbed without leaking or loss.
This is a solid four-star product. One star off for the problem with the plies, but otherwise these are easy to recommend.

Nice & soft, November 1, 2010
By D. Matheny (Austin, TX)

We've been using Charmin TP for years and we really love it. These rolls from Amazon are about twice the size of what you get in the grocery store - but they are about half the size of what we typically get at Costco. This is definitely a good size to get if you don't have room for those giant Costco-sized rolls.
Overall, this is nice & soft and is a great value from Amazon.

It's soft and strong, October 31, 2010
By Sadie (Ventura, CA United States)
|
|
I used to purchase Charmin tissue until they changed their formula and made one type super soft and the other very strong. The super soft tissue pilled and clumped, plus it was very thin. The strong tissue was rough and difficult to use. However, they seemed to have perfected the soft tissue because it's far more durable than it used to be, and best yet, it doesn't pill at all. This tissue is so soft that it feels like something made for a baby. Everytime I touch it I can't help but notice how soft it is. Really, they should call this luxurious instead of soft, because it feels like you would only find it in a spa or luxury hotel. I'm sold on Charmin Ultra Soft.

The best, no butts about it!, October 30, 2010
By RetiredNotTired (Florida panhandle)

I don't think there's a better quality toilet tissue: Charmin Ultra Soft lives up to its name: It's super soft, lasts a long time, and is reasonably priced, about a buck a roll and free shipping. Your butt deserves the best. It's also unscented which is important in our family. While I can't say I like the UPS guy showing up with a carton clearly marked as Charmin Toilet Rolls I gotta admit it's convenient and keeps me from having to go up and down the supermarket aisle comparing prices and features of a dozen or so different TPs.

Soft, strong and no lint!, October 29, 2010
By Live2Cruise (USA)
|
|
I love this toilet paper. The first thing I noticed is that when you start a new roll, the layers don't separate as can happen with other toilet paper. It's very absorbent, but also soft-- soft enough to be used as facial tissue in a pinch. I found that I was able to use less of this toilet paper because it's thicker and stronger. One of the best things is that it doesn't create a bunch of lint like some other soft toilet paper can. So, it's soft, strong, and lint-free. I'd definitely recommend it.

This is high-quality tissue. And there are lots of uses for it - for example, if you have little kids or babies, they can always use this to wipe their faces or hands. Even big people/adults can use this to wipe hand/faces with. Especially during traveling - whether vacationing or just commuting to work or to your child's house - you can always find uses for this. This review would be endless if I named all the reasons and uses for it.
It is also a good-quality product. Very high quality. I do recommend this to anyone.
Very good.

Soft and strong, October 28, 2010
By Publisher (Elk Grove, CA USA)
|
|
Odd, when I got the package I wondered if I was getting seconds or something, Maybe it was "Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging." It didn't have the familiar bears, yellow highlights or red swoosh on the wrapper and it didn't specify sq. feet, number of sheet per roll, patents, etc.
However, the product inside appears the same... top quality TP. If you want soft, instead of scratchy... if you want to avoid TP that breaks apart at the wrong time, this is the one for you. Although, I haven't tried Charmin Ultra Strong though. It may be even better.
After a complaint from Kimberly-Clark, maker of Cottonelle Ultra, the National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus (NAD), found that in Charmin commercials with animated bears, "a bear has numerous pieces of toilet paper left behind prior to using the advertised product, but is toilet paper free after using the product. Although a voiceover states that Charmin Ultra Strong leaves `fewer' pieces behind, NAD determined that the language is directly contradicted by the visuals, which depict no pieces left behind." NAD recommended that the advertiser avoid in future advertising depictions or language that convey the message that Charmin Ultra Strong leaves no pieces behind.
That's more detail than most of us need. Bottom line: It works fine for me.

But wait, there is more!, October 28, 2010
By knitting ninja (San Jose, CA USA)

Eleven pounds of butt wiping goodness. That is what I got delivered to my door step. No awkward eye contact at the grocery store. No explanation of why I need this much toilet paper. Just a big brown Amazon box with Charmin printed on the outside was delivered to me with no questions asked. Charmin DOUBLE rolls! Did I mention it was the deluxe, the DELUX, version of said toilet paper? It is ULTRA SOFT! No questions asked. I am so happy. To have it packaged so eloquently is such a bonus. I really cannot imagine what else I need in my toilet paper.
But wait, there is more! My dog, a disenfranchised Chowhound, LOVES this toilet paper too! She must, because she unrolls it onto the bathroom floor with great regularity. For butt wipe, this is as good as it gets.

Absolutely the best and kindest to your skin., October 28, 2010

We've bought just about every bargain brand trying to save a few pennies and have been very disappointed in every case. This is one product area where bargains are not really bargains unless you have a tough hide. Charmin's Ultra Soft is by far the best product in this category. While it may cost more than other brands, you are paying for the quality and softness. While it is the softest, it also does not just crumble. Obviously a product could be very soft but useless but not Charmin's Ultra Soft. Best advice I can give is to just try it, it is not the kind of product that you won't use anyway.

Soft high-quality toilet paper, October 28, 2010
By D. Bezboruah (Irvine, CA United States)

I know many people who don't like to spend money on toilet paper, their reasoning being...it's toilet paper. But cheap toilet paper is practically like sandpaper which falls apart too easily and "leaves behind stuff" (just like with those bears in the Charmin commercials). In my opinion, Charmin Ultra Soft toilet paper is worth the high price. It's pillow-like softness is very comfortable and it has a solid construction, so it doesn't leave "stuff behind". I also find that I can use less sheets in comparison to cheaper toilet paper. Unlike the others, I'd rather pay more for a comfortable and quality toilet paper. Charmin Ultra Soft fits the bill.

The way we roll..., October 28, 2010
By @homemom (Jersey Shore, United States)
|
|
We'll break this review down into two parts, first the tp itself and then the roll size since I feel both are important factors.
So a review on TP, really do we need a review on this? We all know what it's used for, how different could one type be from another right? REALLY REALLY DIFFERENT!
If you're reading reviews on TP then we'll assume you're one of the people who actually care what they rub on their tush every day, and let's be honest with each other for a min... what on earth is wrong with the people who try to save a few cents per roll by buying the stuff that could be used as sandpaper in a pinch or requires almost a whole roll to be absorbent enough to even wipe after #1? We're talking about one of the most sensitive parts of your body, spend a few cents and use something nice and soft yet still strong! Charmin Ultra Soft is the ONLY TP we use! It's very soft, very strong and I can't imagine why you'd want anything else. The only downside I can think to comment on would be that it leaves little fluff/dust on the holder, I can wipe it down every time I use the bathroom yet it's back every time someone else uses it... I wipe it down and move on, it's worth a bit of fluff.
As for the roll sizes, maybe it's just my sleep deprived mommy mind but I feel like I need a PHD in mathematics to figure out the difference in the roll sizes and decide which I should order. For the longest time I was getting ours at a certain big warehouse store but with a 6 1/2yr old, a 6 month old, a diaper bag, various bottles and sippies, lovies, my older daughter's purse which she swore she'd carry but we all know mommy will be carrying and let us not forget the snacks they each need while shopping... well the less huge things I have to cart home the better so now I order from amazon. That said I'm still trying to figure out which size roll I want, the size I was getting from the warehouse club was perfect, it fit in my holder (one of those corner holders that holds 3 rolls, get one if you don't have one... nothing is worse then realizing you're out of TP and having to do the squat walk to reach some in a closet or under a sink) and it was small enough to roll freely but large enough that I wasn't replacing it every day. This particular size is to small, I'd say nice for traveling (you do take your own TP don't you?) or maybe for someone single or in a seldom used guest bath but for a family you'll be replacing it to often. The other size I've tried from amazon is the "mega roll"... they aren't kidding! It BARELY fits on the roller, so tight that my husband and daughter both end up shredding it at first and though you can squeeze it and jam it into the corner holder it's more trouble then it's worth... though it does last a crazy long time. My search for that perfect middle size roll will continue but regardless on roll size this is the best TP!

This is a large package of tissue. It is the equivalent of 80 rolls. Being double rolls the product does not take up too much space. The product comes in 4 roll packs similar to what you buy at the store. The only difference is the overwrap is basic. No pretty pitures of bears or upc codes. The product is Charmin quality. This is a good buy, if you don't want to run to the store too often. Pricing is also good.

The best available product, October 27, 2010
By E. Swope (Kaneohe, HI USA)

I don't usually review house-hold products unless they really impress me or severly disappoint (or are not a particularly good value). Toilet paper falls under the category of things I'd be least likely to review. That said, I was surprised last year when my 12 year old son asked for this by name. I am a big box shopper and while I tend to go for higher quality, if something is on special, unless it's a product I swear by, it can be replaced. So at some point last year I bought another brand not thinking it made that much difference, and my son actually asked me to go back to what we had been using, the Charmin ultra-soft. This is one of a handful of products which represent a real leap forward in terms of material science: paper product which feel and behave more like cloth. granted it is not as sturdy, but you would not want it to be (lest you have plumbing issues). All that said I think this is best in class. My only qualm with it is the packaging; that is, I prefer individually wrapped rolls because it keeps the spares cleaner. Other than that, it is product I am quite happy with, and glad that Amazon is now carrying products with big-box pricing so that we have more of a choice. Now we can get our preferred brand at a discount and everyone is happy (even picky little boys) ;)

Folks it good toilet paper, October 27, 2010
By txdragon (San Antonio, TX USA)

A few thoughts on what is very basic product. First on the frustration free packaging; it was faily frustration free. Rolls are wrapped four to a pack making them easy to remove. 2. The toliet paper is indeed soft and absorbent. You don't need as many plys per 'use' as some other brands. It is most definitly softer than some bulk brands from like costco or Sams.
I could find no reason not give this 5 stars, can't think of much else that I would want or expect out of my toilet paper.

The best toilet paper around, October 26, 2010
By cliff_ang (Chicago, IL)

In my opinion, this is the best toilet paper around. Charmin Ultra Soft is really ultra soft. The toilet paper is 2-ply and is really thick. You will certainly feel the difference between other types of toilet papers after you try this one.
When I got the product, the packaging was different from the standard packaging that is displayed on the product page or what's available in retail stores (e.g., Target). However, the actual product is the same.

By xenagrrl2000 (Cedar Park, Texas United States)

Wow, I'm a believer! I can't believe how different this Charmin Ultra Soft really is, the hype actually has some truth to it after all. The paper feels really soft, almost velvety, but surprisingly strong. Charmin's done a lot to improve the 'shredding' effect that I always disliked. Like some of the new toilet paper commercials say, toilet paper needs to, first and foremost, get you clean. That's the whole thing, right? Charmin Ultra Soft is much improved in that department. And, lo and behold, I didn't need to use as much as before. This paper holds it together much better than other Charmin versions. I think I will be changing brands, and I'm a hard sell! Try this, if you even remotely liked Charmin before, this will make your day!

Excellent., November 11, 2010
By Nicholas E. Johansen

Good quality toilet paper is, in my opinion, a must. I usually buy Charmin; some of their different types of paper, while always soft, have problems. The extra large rolls won't fit in my dispenser, some of them have a tendency to fall apart and flake, and some of the rolls, while looking gargantuan, are gone after a miniscule number of uses.
This is the perfect Charmin toilet paper: soft, with a large roll that fits perfectly in my dispenser. The toilet paper is not "fluffed up," as much as some premium toilet papers are (Charmin has some like this), so the roll actually lasts a fairly long time. The paper is strong and will not fall apart; it can even be used to clean up jobs more suitable for paper towels (in a pinch). This Amazon product listing of 40 rolls may seem like overkill, but the box it arrives in is fairly small -- about the same size as the package my laptop came in -- so storage/delivery really isn't a big issue. Amazon doesn't currently have a price up, so I can't comment on how competitive it is with local stores -- something you might want to look into before buying 40 (!) of these.
All in all, a great product. Highly recommended.

Our New Brand of Toilet Paper..., November 1, 2010
By Hawk (Palm Bay, Florida USA)

I think I've found a new toilet paper. Granted that's not really exciting news that you'd call all your friends and announce but it is true. For years we used another 'heavenly' brand and were quite happy with it. We were deluding ourselves. This Charmin Ultra Soft is, as far as toilet papers go, amazing. It is remarkably soft, amazingly, superiorly softer than the 'heavenly' competitor. Charmin Ultra Soft is also reasonably strong, fairly lint free and does not fall apart during use. This Charmin Ultra Soft is sold as 'double rolls'. As I haven't seen a 'single' roll of Charmin Ultra Soft I can't comment on it being twice as much on these rolls. It does appear to have about the same amount as the competitor's 'double roll'. The only problem I've had with the Charmin Ultra Soft, and it's really not a problem, is trying to get used to using less for each use. As thick and soft as it is I've found I need to use less than half that of the 'heavenly' brand for the same amount of cleaning.

Charmin double rolls., October 26, 2010

Great softness to each sheet and not linty like it used to be, however, if these are double rolls, then Northern double rolls are almost twice the size of these. They seem to be more like 2 ply single rolls in size to me.

Good, but dingleberry commercial freaks me out, October 17, 2011

Perfectly good toilet paper, but the commercials promoting it that involve the bears and the dingleberries is weird. And frankly, I can't imagine how you could design toilet paper to really lead to less cling-ons.

This is the only way to buy tp, October 7, 2011

This is a great deal on Charmin name brand toilet paper and it is even delivered to your door for free. No more wandering around warehouse stores or hoping you can get a deal at your local drug or grocery store. Because these are broken down into 4-packs, they are easier to store.

ok, but a bit too soft, maybe, November 18, 2010

I have a couple criteria for TP. One is that it be white without artificial dyes and such, the other is that it not leave any particles, shreds or fluff behind (pardon the pun.)
This one is alright but it's not the best TP on the market for (wow, this is really hard to write a TP review without being too silly or too graphic...it's a fine line folks!) as I was saying, there are other brands on the market that seem to stay together a bit better than this one, but overall, this one is fine for common usage. If you're someone like me (sensitive to this stuff?) you may want to look elsewhere.
Of course, my husband thinks this TP is perfect and would rate it a 4, he said. Just thought I'd mention the guy's perspective :)
